Funding From Cowan Family Foundation and Muskoka Community Foundation
The Children’s Programs team at Muskoka Community Services is pleased to announce we have received a $5,000 grant through the Muskoka Community Foundation’s Spirit of Wasan Island initiative. Funds will help low income children aged 13 to 16 attend a week of summer camp, an age group not eligible under Provincial funding.
The District of Muskoka is one of five organizations to receive a grant for collaborative projects that have an immediate impact in building a smart and caring Muskoka. Grants were made possible by Muskoka Community Foundation donors John and Maggie Cowan, who created the Cowan Family Fund in July 2014.
According to Marg French, Chair of the Board for the Muskoka Community Foundation, a conversation about philanthropy in Muskoka began at Wasan Island and inspired the Foundation to pilot a new granting approach. “We wanted to create an opportunity for the Foundation and local charities to work together to collectively address the challenges that Muskoka faces and to build a smart and caring community,” French says.
The District of Muskoka wishes to thank the Muskoka Community Foundation and the Cowan Family for contributing to the Summer Camp Funding Program and for helping children in Muskoka have a life-changing summer experience. Children are the foundation of a strong, smart and caring Muskoka - now and in the future.
