Child Support Guidelines in Ontario

The guiding principle of Ontario’s, and Canda’s, child support law is that children should continue to benefit from the financial means of both parents just as they would if the parents were still together.

By law, both parents are responsible for supporting their children financially while their children are still in school and still dependent.  If a child is over the age of majority, he or she may still be entitled to support, especially if the child is still in school.

In all Canadian provinces, the Child Support Guidelines determine the amount of support to be paid to the custodial parent.
