Let's Grow In Muskoka

The Let’s Grow in Muskoka Developmental Screening Program is an integrated community project funded by the Muskoka Best Start Network and is designed to identify the children in Muskoka who may not be receiving the developmental services they require.  At the screening centre, a developmental professional will assess the children and infants in areas such as speech and language, and gross and fine motor skills, and make appropriate referrals as necessary.
Every year too many children start junior and senior kindergarten with developmental delays or concerns that could have been addressed earlier.  Sometimes these issues are missed as they are not obvious to families, and sometimes it is because families do not know where to turn for support and service.  The earlier concerns are identified, the earlier children can receive the appropriate services.
This year for the first time Let’s Grow in Muskoka Development Screens will be taking place on weekends and evenings, as well as during the work day.  There are three dates set in the towns of Gravenurst, Huntsville and Bracebridge, as well as a new “just in time” component that will allow parents with infants and young children who live in outlying communities to book a screening at a time and place that is convenient for them.
If you know of a family with an infant or young child who might benefit from a developmental screening, please have them contact the Simcoe District Health Unit at 1-877-721-7520 x 7396 to book an appointment at one of the pre-scheduled dates outlined below, or call 705-645-2412 Ext. 308 or 1-800-461-4215 Ext. 308 to book an individual screening.
