Immunization

A vaccine stimulates your immune system to produce antibodies, exactly like it would if you were exposed to the disease. After getting vaccinated, you develop immunity to that disease, without having to get the disease first.  This is what makes vaccines such powerful medicine.

Schools and Childcare centre’s require proof of immunization at the time of registration.  An up-to-date immunization record ensures your child is protected against vaccine preventable diseases.

Each year the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reviews records of students registered in school /day nursery.  Students may risk suspension if they are not immunized, on life at the health unit.

An immunization record or "Yellow Card" is an important way to keep track of all your child's vaccinations.

It is your responsibility to keep a record of your child's immunizations.  Once your child is enrolled in child care / school, you must notify the health unit each time your child receives an immunization by a health care provider.  Immunizations can be received at your health care provider or by appointment at a local health unit office.  Your child's immunization record can be updated by sending a copy by mail or fax to the health unit or by calling Your Health Connection at 1-877-721-7520.  Immunization records can also be reported online by using the secure web form at https://www.simcoemuskokahealth.org/HealthUnit/Contact/ChildImmunization.aspx
